Dr Naik was till recently the vice president of Welfare Party of India and an ex-minister in government of Karnataka. A member of the Banjara (Lambani) community, Dr Naik has a deep love for literature. She’s written several books, children stories, novels, dramas, poems and essays. Many of these are part of the syllabi of several educational institutions. She also has a flair for journalism having worked as a reporter.
Dr Naik served in the legislative council of Karnataka (1986-92). She later became a member of legislative assembly in 1994 for five years and during this time she was also the minister for Kannada, Culture and Dept. of Women & Child Welfare. She’s also held positions of honorary responsibilities in several community associations and societies.
Dr Naik has won several awards, including the prestigious Karnataka Rajyotsava award (1991), Rajiv Gandhi National Unity award (1995), Kannada Shree award (2010) and Karnataka Choodamani (2011). As someone with a flair for the arts, she’s also been a part of Lambani and Kannada films and tele-serials.
Given her vast political, cultural and community work experience, Aam Aadmi Party is pleased to propose her name as a candidate for the Gulbarga (SC Reserved) constituency.
